On-Load Tap Changers for Step-Voltage Regulators
Motor-driven on-load tap-changing mechanisms for step-voltage regulator applications. The referenced RVR-1 regulator uses a gear train and spring drive to change taps under load, with mechanical coupling to an external tap-position indicator.
The manufacturer specifies a mechanical service life exceeding one million operations for this mechanism. Electrical duty, contact life and maintenance requirements must be confirmed for the selected regulator and operating conditions.
In the associated RVR-1 regulator system, voltage is adjusted from −10% to +10% in 32 steps of approximately 0.625%. The regulator range covers 2.4–34.5 kV applications at 50 or 60 Hz. These are system ratings; they must not be treated as standalone tap-changer ratings.
The control system samples voltage, current and tap position to command the mechanism. Compatibility depends on the regulator winding arrangement, motor supply, current rating, switching duty and controller interfaces.
For replacement or new-equipment selection, provide the regulator model, tap diagram, rated current, step voltage, motor supply, mechanical interface and control requirements.
