Panel Multifunction Power Meters

Class 0.5S energy and 11th-order harmonics in one 96 mm cut-out.

One panel meter should end the argument about what the switchboard is actually doing. This one measures voltage and current per phase and line, active, reactive and apparent power and energy, power factor, frequency, phase angle and the phasor diagram, demand over a configurable window with maxima and minima, voltage and current unbalance, and harmonics with THD. Energy accuracy is Class 0.5S, so the same instrument that troubleshoots the feeder can also be used for internal cost allocation.

Harmonics are displayed to the 50th order simultaneously, not scanned one at a time, which is what makes a nuisance-tripping investigation a single visit. The current input accepts CT, 333 mV or Rogowski sensors from 5 A to 6,000 A, so the same meter fits a small tenant panel and a 6,000 A main. Communication is Modbus over RJ-45 or RS-485, with two relay outputs rated 3 A at 30 VDC or 250 VAC plus an energy pulse output, and 5 kV RMS optocoupler isolation between the I/O and the measurement side. Voltage input covers 0 to 600 VAC line-to-line, 720 VAC maximum, in a 96 × 96 mm cut-out.

Why it matters

  • Class 0.5S energy accuracy is high enough for tenant billing and utility check metering, so one meter type covers operations and cost allocation.

  • Fifty harmonic orders shown at once turns a harmonic complaint into a measurement instead of a sequence of guesses.

  • One meter, three sensor types. CT, 333 mV and Rogowski inputs mean the standard drawing survives from a 5 A circuit to a 6,000 A bus.

  • 5 kV RMS optocoupler isolation keeps a switching transient on the relay wiring out of the measurement front end.

  • Six tariffs and a configurable demand window let the meter follow the rate structure you are actually billed on.

Questions engineers ask

What does Class 0.5S accuracy mean on an energy meter?Class 0.5S bounds the energy measurement error at 0.5% across the meter's rated current range, with the S denoting the special class that holds that accuracy down to low load currents. It is the class normally required for tenant billing, cost allocation and utility check metering, rather than for indication only.

Can this meter be used with Rogowski coils instead of conventional CTs?Yes. The current input accepts conventional CTs, 333 mV sensors and Rogowski coils, covering 5 A to 6,000 A depending on the sensor version. Rogowski coils are the usual choice on a retrofit, because the flexible coil closes around an existing busbar without breaking the circuit and does not saturate under fault current.
