Sweep Frequency Response Analyzers (SFRA)

Compare frequency-response signatures to assess transformer condition. Atlas Energy supplies the HVEX Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA) system for power transformers, reactors, motors, and other linear electrical systems. Frequency-domain measurements characterize how an asset responds across a frequency sweep, helping identify changes associated with winding movement, deformation, connection problems, and other mechanical or electrical abnormalities.

Measurement functions

  • Spectral signature analysis.

  • Transfer function and terminal impedance.

  • Open-circuit and short-circuit measurements.

  • Capacitive and inductive response measurements.

  • Comparison of resonance features and response curves against suitable reference data.

Integrated mobile system

The HVEX arrangement combines an oscilloscope, amplifier, connection terminals, and a computer with HFRA supervisory software in a transportable system. The software configures the test, displays graphs, registers equipment, generates reports, and maintains a database of historical results.

  • CSV data export and automatic PDF reports.

  • Overlay of response curves for comparative analysis.

  • Documented supply: 127 V or 220 V, 60 Hz.

  • Function-generator bandwidth: 25 MHz; this is a component specification, not a guaranteed end-to-end SFRA sweep range.

  • 12-bit acquisition resolution listed in the datasheet.

  • A 50 Vpp configuration is described by HVEX for applications with elevated external noise.

Applications and interpretation

Use SFRA to support baseline recording and comparative transformer assessments following transport, installation, maintenance, or suspected mechanical stress. Interpret changes with reference traces, transformer construction, connection conditions, and complementary test results.

HVEX identifies IEC 60076-18 and IEEE C57.149 as references for transformer frequency-response testing. Contact Atlas Energy with the asset type, required sweep range, excitation level, and site conditions to confirm the complete HVEX configuration and its measurement performance.
