Turnkey High Voltage Test Laboratories

Automated routine testing for transformers, instrument transformers, and distribution surge arresters. Atlas Energy supplies HVEX laboratory systems configured around your products, production flow, and required test program. Integrated power equipment, measurement, automatic connection switching, software, and safety controls help reduce manual handling and maintain traceable results.

Transformer and motor routine-test laboratory

The documented containerized configuration supports distribution transformers rated 5–300 kVA, with high-voltage windings up to 36 kV and low-voltage windings from 220 to 440 V. Test functions include applied-voltage withstand, short-duration induced voltage, no-load loss and excitation current, short-circuit impedance, and load loss. Pneumatic switching automates connections after the operator connects the test leads and selects the equipment record.

  • Test frequency range: 50–240 Hz.

  • Applied test voltage: up to 70 kV; loss-test voltage: up to 3,400 V.

  • Documented test cycle: approximately 4–12 minutes, depending on the transformer and test sequence.

  • 20 ft container configuration; nominal dimensions 6.1 × 2.4 × 2.6 m (approximately 20 × 7.9 × 8.5 ft).

  • Documented supply: 380 V three-phase, 200 kVA; compressed air: 3–6 bar.

CT and VT routine-test laboratory

An automated production platform for current and voltage transformers, with conveyor handling and pneumatic connection switching for up to six specimens of the same class per cycle. The test program includes applied voltage, induced voltage, and partial discharge measurement.

  • Applied-voltage testing: up to 100 kV on the HV side and 10 kV on the LV side.

  • Induced-voltage testing: up to 3,200 V and 10 A in the documented configuration.

  • Integrated partial discharge equipment, including coupling capacitor, measuring impedance, and calibrator.

  • Real-time graphical measurements and reports exportable to Excel, Word, PDF, and CSV.

  • Interlocked doors and windows, emergency stops, area scanner, and light curtains.

Distribution surge arrester routine-test laboratory

A conveyor-based cell for gapless metal-oxide distribution arresters with nominal voltage ratings from 3 to 36.2 kV. The documented system measures reference voltage, leakage current at continuous operating voltage, and partial discharges. Each unit receives an individual test result, with automatic routing of accepted and rejected products and integrated laser marking.

  • One specimen per cycle; reference throughput approximately 40–60 units per hour, depending on stabilization time and the selected partial discharge routine.

  • Documented AC test source: 5 kVA, 220 V input, up to 50 kV output.

  • Configurable acceptance limits and stored test records.

  • Additional tests, including residual voltage impulse and leak testing, require dedicated modules specified separately.

Engineering and project scope

Each laboratory is configured for the equipment under test and the installation. HVEX documentation references ABNT NBR 5356 and 5440 for the transformer configuration, IEC 61869 and ABNT NBR 6855/6856 for instrument transformers, and IEC 60099-4 and IEC 60270-related methods for surge arresters. North American test requirements, including any requested IEEE procedures, supply voltage, site layout, grounding, utilities, and acceptance criteria must be defined in the project specification. Contact Atlas Energy with your product ratings, required tests, and production capacity to establish the appropriate HVEX configuration.
